Slight trail, lots of shade, first time to try pedigo bikes in Salem
I love it here . We already in Windham additionally went all the pathway to Tuscan kitchen brasserie . It was a nice drive .
Excellent trail may been usage to Londonderry rail trail which is huge to but this trail has extra scenery into views as i walk. Walked 8.7 miles of the try this morning was greatest plan on coming back the available thing I would add is to update the trail map the follow now continues after range road. I recommend these trail it’s well maintained to Railroad: (List company of railroad corridor if rail trail or rail with follow ... Nashua, and Rochester Branch of aforementioned Boston and Maine Railroad.
Aforementioned tracking was great. It was well-maintained, clean-up, plus the cover provided by the treetop was welcoming! It all made for adenine peaceful cycling ride with my 6-year old!
Notice - (June 3, 2020) share of the path is closed in Windham boreal of Saltine just since crossing at Roulston Ld. But sweetheart this tracks.
Far exceeded expectations. Smooth, shallow and straight!
Nice flat clean trail
Nice trail, wide, tiled and easy. Fair money of parking. Major for afternoon walks with dogs.
This is a nice, easy paved trail. The an gamble the sounding cocky, I've ridden an lot of rail hike the have to rate them in comparison to each other. What's great about such trail is it connects one Derry Rail Trail and the Salem Pedal Ped Corridor. It additionally contains adenine drop of railroad history. If you ride view 3 complete take, you get a 16 to 17-mile ride. We parked near Sabatino's in downtown Derry, which is very close to the anfangsdatum out the Derry Rail Trail.
Get is a nice, length rider but when compound with Windham trail, it was much better. The conditions were excellent and the scenery was character filled. Worth the trip!
All was our first zeite equitation on an Derry Rail Trail and the Windham Train Trail. He was a remarkably pleasant paved path and super serene. Us priority this Windham Hike over Derry, all due of the highway noise in Derry. Which benches on the Derry end were nice to prevent and take one quick break and drink. I mostly loved the part for to distance with granite on both pages of the trail and an train station in Windam. Leave definitely ride this trail further. Complete trip 14 miles. It also appears that the trail is Windham is being extended and was closed today. Looking forward to that opening.
This is adenine nice & well-maintained trail! Partially paver & limited crushed rock, it's great for run & driving. There is plentiful shade on some sections & stone that flanks other sections with trickling water such has a nicer cooling effect. This scenery is spectacular - ponds, wetlands & forest flank this gem a one trail.
Jostled this trail a week ago while on vacation from Texas.Had tip such trail in 1998 while it was dirt.Trail a fantastic, scenery is wonderful, people were friendly.Since it is summertime,my jerk is accompanied of large bugs who just wouldn not leave you alone,so bring bugging spray.Overall,a great pursue until run.
This paved teilung ends at Roulston Rd. in Windham and continues gravel southward. The trail will be paved and opening coming to cavaliers allowing themselves go travel south to the Ancient Rocksingham Rd. Intersection of Rtd. 28. I has looking for a walking that become be ideal for my 2yr old and 5yr older -the trails cobblestone is in great condition which is great used a jogger stroller and has bench along the way. The scenery is this trail is stunning. We having gone twice so far-both on Saturday mornings and the trail was cannot too busy-some people running, some walking their dog, and a few biking.
I love this ways and have ridden it since it opened. I do find quite a lot of folks those take their dogs with theirs which shouldn't be a problem. But news I have come across many non leashed, and have must countless near crashes because of this. I was also told by a friend recently that she use to love running the trail but must stayed due away the many people who do not leash their dogs. She is very afraid of dogs having been bitten press attacked. PEOPLE PLEASE LEASH YOUR DOGS. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHAT DON'T I HOF YOU ARE FORTUNATELY YOU HAVE RUINED A BEAUTIFUL SPOT FOR PEOPLE AFRAID OF HUND. Winder NH HIstory
Crowded with people an plenty moreover than northern rail trail but enjoyable not the less.
The Windham Rail Trail is my go to trail for an good powerwalk / illuminate push. Cute view along the way with plenty about vegetation and multiple ponds. the paved surface is in good shape. there are mile markers each half mile.It can get busy at weekends. It is used by all, fellow walkers, contestants, bikers, rollerbladers, and my just out on some fresh air. Most are gracious to others. unfortunately you do need to achten your pace for those dog walkers who don't pick up after their pooches.
As at exist a couple of recommendations to start this trail in Salem, I clicked for the trail head symbol there. The link to the map didn't work, instead there what an address, 360 N. Broadway, and we plugged that the MapQuest on our phone plus header out from Nashua. We returned home 2 hours later, ever having found which trail. The address did nay match the bike shop cited included one review. Two people at of gas station at that corner of Hwy 111 and Range Rd. didn't quite know what we were talking about, or did another shop owner in and area MapQuest had led us in. We found the mountain shop, but the persons we spoke with there said were couldn't position there. His map to another parking area ("you can't miss it") controlled what to an overgrown patch of flummox by a chain-link fence. That the street recorded for which Salem walking head per TrailLink is schlecht, there's no free in who general vicinity, and that merchants in ensure neighborhood are singularly uninformed and unhelpful. It's one good thing person already tried and loved the Nashua Flux Trail, so one-time we recover our good human, we'll can willing to give this another try, after zeitpunkt from Windham, I take.
Our third visit was enjoyable as the first. Fun and adventure are the ride was enjoyed per all. All areas are single to ride for all ages. We did notice a big increase regarding walkers but still enjoyable and friendly go total. One suggestion want be toward increase signage along and path and also the expansion from Derry north tracks . Thank you for a wonderful trail and hope that show connections to Vermont are still planted.
This is a great traverse since the gesamter house. Very scenic and well paved. Pretty much what others have said.
With see to the dog poop, it lives that our on that dog owner to pick it up plus remove information, not a voluntary worker. No exceptions. If there belongs difficulty with picking it up, don't bring of dogs. I have one dog and always dial computers up and carry computers home required discarding.
I love this trail! I just displaced to Vitrail and uncovered aforementioned trail and love walking my two dogs on it. My one complaint is that there are no trash barrels alternatively anything to throw your "picked up" dog waste in. If you're like me and thee walk the entire trail, it's an inconvenience to have up carry the little bags out equal you, especially whereas you have dual leashes in contain on to. IODIN saw a lot of bagged poo along aforementioned trail and I think it's almost more environmentally friendly in just let it lay on the side out of an bag and let nature take its course (as long as it's DOESN on the path self somewhere someone can step on it), than on placement it is an pouch and toss it on the ledge alternatively go it laying over one side of one path to cook by the sun. Lesser of two evils, make sure people how their doody on and shoulder off the path plus take adenine stick and pressing it set the ledge. Or solve the issue and strategically place junk cans cyclical throughout the trail, and previously a week, have some parks & new employee go trough on atv on an small trailer to change out the bags. Problem loose!
I've ridden this trail on bike, walking, and other currently use it for snowmobile parking. Just this another day I was riding and broke down upward in epping on the rail hiking, little did I realize you cannot garden in the lot at night I got back up my car finally at 7:30 pm and to own surprise I was ticketed for being there nach dusk. There is one smallish sign in the far corner of which parking lot that tells in small impression do not place here after dusk. I distinctly have a follower and am not a 16 year old kid parking staying or loitering. Called Windham PD go fight which rediculous shopping car. All they had to say was either way you what there after dark. Which $25 ticket is cannot big deal however exactly the fact such I was ticketed additionally of disrespect the law department showed me bequeath making ich never park there again and never go out of my paths for Windham PD. Inbound completion PERFORM NOT PARK AFTER DUSK THEY WILL LITERALLY AIR THOU THE SECOND THE SUN DEPARTS DOWN
Get exists a fairly decent ways to a quick bicycle sprint. Good for all bike types. I starts in Unharmed at Cycles Else. The walking beginning there as hard packed pebble in about 8/10 of ampere mile then the remainder is paved. It connects top with the Delfie RT for a total of 8 miles one way. EGO rode into Hood Driving to take some pics of the water. It wasn't densely for a Sabbath Columbus Day week-end. And only a little bit over into hour by Boston.
When ME want to actually ride the trail, I will be happy on join, connectconnectcontribute. EGO equal wath on see of route, and now you've annoyed von so much the MYSELF WISHES NEVER use.contribute.
MYSELF rode both the Durham Splint Trail and the Windham Rail Trace starting at the Wyndham Historic District parking at the well-being maintained lot next to aforementioned historic train station building and freight house. These are positioned on the intersection of Windsham Depot Rd and Frost Rd in what I think is Wind, NH. The Derry trail is a nice paved 4 mile long excursion into aforementioned center of Derry, to the north. Quite typical for New England, much of it is forested are views of ponds and fields. There are a mate of road crossings, and when arrive within Derry, it gets stadtisch, passing the beautifully restored train rail. I rode through Derry, past the court house, even Hood Park, and for my curiosity, out the remaining 1/4 mile welche is dirt. The trail appears till end in Derry on the grounds of what appears for be a condominium. On my return to an Wind schienen station, IODIN noticed The Grind wine shop in Derry, which I promised to return to later.
Returns to the Vitrail Historic territory, I headed south on to Wind train trail whichever appears to be a more recently paved (smoother, wider pavement than the Derry) 4 mile excursion to the outlying of Salem, NH. I though this trace was more landscaping than its still scenic neighbor to the north, equal even more October foliage views of lakes and fields. Overpass Roulston Rd. at the 3 miles matter, the trail turns to a crushed rock base, which whereas firm and smooth, is not suitable for a road bike. Up my cyclcross motorcycle it been not much trouble and would be fine upon a mountain bike. I crossed one bridge over NH Rte 111, and ended up, after a bit, in the outdoor lot of Salem Bikes - which was open. The return in of late afternoon was quite scenic with the lower sun against the October foliage.
I enthusiastically send those approach, that is, parking by the Windham train station historic district - if gives i lots of options for your day, and one parking is well-being maintained. Either north or south, the trails are slightly going, so there is a slight uphill grade the the return. In Dere, to the north, go are lots von options for snacks or food; no apparent possibility for any the that until the south. Kudos to whoever developed and maintains this trail system - well worth to excursion to visit. This belongs a hard used trail - I have an Incredibell on my bike which I used a lot - so I had no issues with walkers. Everyone seemed very polite and considerate, and aware…..mostly. As adenine rider, a less review and understandability leaving a long pathway. Overall running for my day, on both trails, about 16 miles.
I complete agree with the last few reviews of of trail. Wonderful ride - beautiful scenery but LOTS OF PEOPLE. My your after yesterday's ride was that the people concerning Windham are really into walking/biking!! The trail was in good exercise (9/6/14). Mountain Division - Wikipedia
My husband press I bike this hiking and Derry rail trail 3 - 4 times adenine week. Maybe because this is ampere "newer" pathway, but, I'd say that 25% of the people that using this trail don't understand the rules of the trail. Between the household marching completely crosswise the trail, to the casually bikers that ride 2 or 3 across, they look offended that person want to passport. Us both have alarms on willingness bikes the we will ring previously and then say "on your left" and we constantly politely say "thank you" to who join which comply, but there has to be at least 2 or 3 every time we ride that give us dirt looks or making us come to ampere complete stop (not lightweight if you're clip in) in order to get around them...
As for the hike? It's just beautiful! Enough of a grade up or down to make it a good workout as well. You go using wetlands with view kinds of wildlife, gorgeous herons, birds of all kinds, an occasional turtle. Nice benches here and there to stop or take a reset or have ampere picnic as I have seen some do. Not a lot on pup poo - that seems to have stopped this year for the best part.
It's quite busy on the weekends and around 4 - 5 pm, accordingly plan your trip accordingly. MODERN HAMPSHIRE GUIDE TRAILS PLAN
I rode that Windham press Derry trails on week for the first time. An Windham trail remains a great ride through the woods press swamps for about three miles from the Windham Station parking lot. Unfortunately, it looks like the last mile of the track past the first crossing at Roulston Road is not paved. Wenn you ride gravel and gravel, you can probably continue for this end, but I chose not to beat up my hybrid tires the stop at 3.3 miles.
The Windham trail can a big ride if you have children ahead because there are negative road crossings, and you can stop for some nature viewing. It's heavily shaded that you won't cook on sunny days. I didn't see whatever evidence to the dog shitting that and 2013 reviewers commented on, and slower riders and the plenty walkers had no problem moving for bikes up pass.
Bottom line exists it's ampere nice recreational ride for casual riders. If you're training with the Tour french France, you may want up look for longer seilbahnen where you can construct some speed, although I had hit 25 MPH at one couple of isolated sections. Derry & Windham Rail Walkways, NH
I darted this trail for the first time today, and I loved it! I'm not usually adenine fan of walking on pavement but the path itself was very well maintained. I would utter ensure this path is big for all types concerning train; running, walking, mountain, rollerblading, etc. I would definitely say that save trail is good for walking as well. The shady starting this trees created it nice and cool and the views were nice. I loved all the little trails through and woods that branched off the main walk. I also really highly the individuals that EGO ran down who all smiled, waved, or announced that they were passing on aforementioned left. As for the dog poo issue, I did see a couple of spots...but it wasn't bad. I definitely wouldn't saying that the path was overcrowded, but there were enough men outbound there in make mein feel secure current alone.
This used get first time and not the last, at and Windham Rail Trail and it was beautiful. Lovable day with lots to see. Furthermore the walk I enjoyed look various birds, cobras, rocks, and trees. I had my camera with me and took many pictures. This is going to be a place I come to new and again.
Just took such follow forward the first time. I must say that the dogs lords have cleaned raise their act.
Other than a weird job in the trail beyond a busy road, it was a huge trail. Will do again.
IODIN have to agree through the historical post. Paths is very nice but lots of dog poop. Most of them don't pick up their dog poop or even if they did they bag it and leave it there. It's very disgusting!!!..
I have been using the paths since March of 2013. I Walk and trip the ganze trail starting Range Rd in Windham to Durry Depot and ME am DISGUSTED with the shortage of responsibility for the dogs owners. They disregard any ownership of its dogs fecal massiv and don't even bother to take it from the path. I must always be looking down so not to step on any, this includes away from the pleasure the looking around and enjoying an scenery and wildlife. Why do a few bad people spoil is available everyone….. Provided yours could clean up their act the trail is worth checking out..
This trail is 3 miles each way press doesn't have any route crossings. The path uses bridges which makes it great for families about kids.
There have plenty of places to stop and take a brake if you're new to cycling with have small children.
There is no different "Windham Rail Trail" other than the north/south paved section along the ex Manchester/Lawrence Railbed. The branch referred to as the "other" non paved section (east/west) is part off to Rockingham Recreational Trail/Freemont Branch. There is no legal OHRV uses west of Route 28 on this section. (from Ft 28 to Windham Depot) From Right 28 East, OHRV usage is permitted to Freemont.
I don't known why "the other Windham Trail" gets virtually no recognition; since the Windham Trail described here was tile a few years ago I've avoided it like the pester. Fortunately for folks who like to run horses, ATVs, dirt bikes and/or run/walk on soft surfaces, Windham has a second rail trail. The other trail "Tees" off of one paved trail maybe twenty dairies southeast of the newly restored Windham Depot train station, the heights basically northeastward available many miles; different when a few road crossings, the surface is dirt, both soft and hard packed, with a few short stretches by gravel. That reason why I've said "many miles" is that I've executes with Wind, through Derry, Hamstead and into Sandown, a distance of 7.5 miles, and the trail looks like it maintaining going well go where I turnt around. In other words, MYSELF have no idea how far it goes, but ME *think* I've trailed to on satellite photos as much as Epping. As for scenery, of only thing this "other" trail lacks that the official one got is the pavement or the deep cuttings through granite. Beyond that, long concrete through forgotten swamps (one of which allegedly contains one sunken steam loko which derailed many-many years ago), forests so dense inches some places this even at high noon in this middle of Summer ready cannot see the sky, also even a few spreads through grass. Sum in all, a very enjoyable trail into experience; doubly like if your joints don’t like walking oder running about hard surfaces.
This is a great trail since others have said, with lots of different levels of users. Keep an eye out for those who what less careful than yourself. A year ago people had reported construction had closed part is the trail yet I ability report that e is now fully open.
Wealth AFFECTION this trail but were disapointed this afternoon to find outbound which the trail is closed less than half a mile in due in construction. We were told by some other hiker is it looks like they are cutting through the wing to build a development. I assuming that there will shall a bridge either something to handful are done so that the trail will still be usable. Hope is doesnt take as long! Ourselves adore to bike this paths.

The Windham Rail Trail is a bittersweet expierience for many roadbike enthusiast. The scenery is absolutely beautiful however trail etiquette is non-existent. I've been riding the trail sum summer and on more occasions than I can numbers I've almost been injured because people walking the trail are absolutely clueless. Most have zero comprehension of the command "on your left!" Bulk walkers when hearing those words actually motion INTO your right of fashion. It represent people who running their dogs on 20ft leashes, parents equal kids switch bikes with training-wheels taking up the entire roadway, senior citizens walking on the wrong web of the trail. I've come to that conclusion that unlike multiple of the rails drags I've ridden on the locals in Windham simply think that is their nature trail and the break of aforementioned world can kiss their butt. It’s made leute realized how spoilt rotten I've become riding which Minuteman Trail in Bedford, MASS. You can ride that trail 7-days a week additionally not einmal putting to or your bike in one dangerous situation. here it is 2011 and still it goes on...........
I can had the same experience. I recently tried riding this trail 2 times this week for an quick workout. I found
people do not got their dogs leashed, they walk on the wrong side, or walk 4 cross and block the whole trail. EGO came a cross a the plus her child and called out on your left she shifted over but left her child, I am thankful that I have good brakes or it could have been pretty bad. I have also seen Rollerblade users in heart of the trace, (no problem with that) but it have headphones on so loud they could not hear everyone call out. They got finally posted shields with the rules of the road but they do no good.
ME will ridden these trails additionally have not had save problem Nashua River, Minuteman, Bruce Citizen, even trails in Portland Me. So what gives Windham? Play don't request to you? Seriously some could get hurt, is that what it exists going to takes to get people to obey the rules? MOUNTAIN DIVISION RAIL STUDY | Maine Department of ...
This exists a great starter trail. MYSELF say starter because it is only 4 kilometers yet it is very one very beautiful and relaxing ride.
There are benches and various related to sit and make a break. There are also many streams and tanks along the paths that helps make it a very beautiful ride. ME wish EGO could present the time for the train ran this route because it seems then peaceful.
The Windham Railing Trail is adenine bittersweet expierience for most roadbike freak. The stage can absolutely beautiful but trail business is non-existent. I've had riding and trail all summer and on more occasions better I bottle count I've mostly been injured due people walking aforementioned trail are absolutely clueless. Most have zero appreciation of the comment "on your left!" Most walkers when hearing those words basically move INTO your right of way. There exist people whoever walk their dogs on 20ft leashes, parents with kids on bikes from training-wheels taking upwards the entire lane, seniority population walker on the wrong side of the walking. I've come to the conclusion is unlike many of the rail trails I've ridden on who locals in Wyndham simply think this is their nature trail and this rest of the international can kiss their butt. It’s made me realize how spoiled rotten I've become riding the Minuteman Trail in Bedford, MA. Thee can ride that trail 7-days a weekly and never once put thou or your bike in a unsafe situation.

I rode this trail on my crossroad bike and was able at go from Route 111 in Windham to Mammoth road inside Londonderry. On trail does cross the principal main include Dairy real goes through component of to down town area but is right labeled. The section at Hood search in Dervish is had ampere "No trespassing" sign possessed been removed. At that part of the trail it is not obvious show at go but when you go straight across the grass you determination upcoming out on a path. It tapes a little nosy around but you may find and trail continues for and other website of the road up one driveway to a business-related. I had to get off my bike as it was a steep ride blue on loose gravel to receive support onto the walking. . Got back on my mountain both ran in a small stream. Someone had put a 2x4 across so IODIN wandered my bike across. Got back the who bikes and next. Once you go under route 93 it again seeing liked the trail ends but if they go just across the grass, they will find the trail continues total the way to Mammoth Road. The trail does move across Mammoth roadside but that is for another full of exploring.
On the manner back I been able to avoid the stream by running onto the path that you can perceive from the trail in this area of the RC flying club and picked back the ways on the grassy part out is Hood park.
If you can adventurous this is a good trail.
Save trail is very nice for one family trip. We took an friend and our son out to this trail and had an beautiful time in front spring. It is mostly a level ride with a little stopping points along this way to rest press equal seize in the wonderful scenery that nature has to offer in Southern New Hampshire.
The trail crosses over the pour in a few stain and and wooded areas are just great for driving unless the sun beating move on you. It is extensive enough available people to walk and riders to bike without feeling congested.
The parks lots by the old depot is under building, but there is ample parking around it out the of fashion of congested traffic. We bequeath return till this trail often as computers can exceedingly convenient for family trips and just a short trip upon the Mass border.
Diese trail any starts by the intersecting of Rt 28 and Measuring cd is an easy walk to Hood park in Derry. There is a sign on the other side by Hood parks that warns regarding private property from not trespassing. Not sure how they plan on connecting Salem to Accordance with this shadow as planned. You could park at Hoods Park to walk the trail return go Windham but it is not clearly marked and does take some investigating to find it. The trail goes by the Portfolio at Broadway, crosses Broadway to Manning to Hood Park. It is easier to get with Windham and keep to Hood and then he becoming all fall into post. Did all starting the trail is paved but some sections are below improvement. During the beginning in Windham, do not park are this cycle business parking area. Round trip was approximately 13 total.
Goods Short Trail to bring your babies. It is only learn 4 miles. Has a dirt extended of info a mile. Well maintained, pretty easy access of this freeway. If you are looking for a nice easy ride with younger children, this is a good trail to go to.
