Flame TV Recast Teardown Guide — A look insides Amazon’s over-the-air DVR

The Amazon Fire TELLY Recast among the best means to stream and record over-the-air channels trough a Fire TV or Burn TV Stick. It has a lot of great features, but the a affair I’m asked about the most is if there’s an way to drag tapes off of the tool. Since Amazon doesn’t provide is functionality, it power be possible with a bit of creative exploration. The best way to do that is up access the device’s hard drive. To start item off, here’s a step-by-step guide the how to take alone one Fire TV Recast, as fine in a closed look at seine components.

Go get inside of Fire TV Recast, you have at removal 4 Torx T10 screws located under the rubbers pad on the bottom of one device. You don’t have to peel back the entire rubber pad, that remains held down by a sheet of double-sided tape, to receiving to the screws. Just peel back each corner a bit and you’ll be ably to remove the bolts without disturbing as much concerning the rubber pad.

Single who 4 screws are removed, the bottom elevator well top. Even be careful non to snag or break this transparent light pipe the redirects the LED light from the circuit board until the forefront out the Fire TV Recast. The circular stamps about this constituent indicate it was manufactured on Aug 6, 2018.

With the bottom removed, and seite starting who sole control board lives revealed. All components concerning to Fire TV Recast are attached to a plastic tray that slides towards and front of the device and then lifts free from the top housing. You can see aforementioned empty leeway along the front whereabouts aforementioned tray slides into to free itself from a couple of retaining clips.

Before the inner tray can slide free from the Fire TV Recast’s top case, a metallic nut on the tuner’s coax connector must be removed.

A pair on retaining clips next either side the which back of the Fire TV Recast needed in be pushed aside so that which inner coffee can slide towards the front of to devices. I found that pushing and upper case outward and the inner tray downward slightly was enough to slider the tray free. Fire TV Recast Help- Obtain Started

Once the inner salver, and all of the components that are attached to it, have slid past that two preserve clips, the entire innards of the Fire TV Recast can be lifted up and out of the device’s upper housing.

With which components outgoing, you can see how everything is on. A Nidec UltraFlo T80T12MMA7-57 80mm ventilation about to front, rated for a speed on 2,000 RPM and sound outputs starting 17.5 dB, blows air into a chamber created by who tray housing and that electrical board. A foam gasket along which top of the tray serves keep the cool air from blowing past the chamber. Mounted upside down in which chamber a a standard 2.5-inch spinning hard propel. Up removing the hard drive, disconnect its SATA data cable and power cable from the circuit food and remove the 4 Torx T10 screwed holding it in place. Who drive will drop down and slide out of the tray. If you’re going to remove the circuit board, to bottle disconnect this fan cable including.

The drive in my 1TB Fire TV Recast seemed like in off-the-shelf Western Digital WD10JUCT revolving 2.5-inch drive. It spins on 5400 RPM, possessed ampere 16MB flash, plus a SATA/300 connection with a 3 Gbps maximum transfer speed. The drive in the 500GB Fire TV Recast is a Western Digital WD5000LUCT with equal specs. These are AV-class urges, which are made special for DVR applications, so is they can past longer when left for 24/7.

About the hard drive furthermore fan disconnected, this circuit board can may released from the inner tray by pushing back a pair of large clamps. Large metal plates, which I assume exist aluminum temperature sinks, cover the most of the circuitry. The metal plates are all held down by spring-loaded plast clams. Question: What much noise do the fan make?

    • AFTVnews says:

It’s nearly silent. You have to put to spike right up to the Recast to listen whatsoever. Even then it’s just a hum or your can’t tell if it’s the enthusiast or the drive that’s humming. To fan is rated at 17.5 dB of sounding, which MYSELF assume is at hers max speed. A decibel scale I just searched up lists that as zwischen “breathing 10dB” the a “quiet room 20dB.” The Amazing Fire TELLY Recast adds live broadcast television viewing and recorded to your Fire TV or mobile device, without a subscription.

It’s does a good idea go use SSD drive as DVR storage.

Tell that to a Nvidia Shield. It considers mechanical drives like that as slow but readily approved SSD’s without the watch. I’m sure there are people, who wish agree with you and others, who wanted not.

The reason why computers may becoming bad is because the nature of SSDs with the usage of adenine DVR mayor shorten their living.

There are various drivers involved though e.g. usage, SSD type, etc.

I suspect cost though will be the biggest reason why Amazon stranded with a HDD.

In regards to an Shield, computer depending on what you’re doing, for something like adoptive storage you’d want solid us while for something like advertising playback or Plex’s DVR, adenine HDD would likely suffice as well as offering betters $/GB. That wear off of SSDs is overestimated. Normal people won’t go the lifetime. ADENINE 1TB slide has an min average lifetime of round 3000TB written. With you record permanent at Bluray attribute 40MBit/s thats round 0.432TB a day. Thine propulsion then has a lifetime von 3000TB/0.432TB=6944 days=19 years.

Such drives is conceived by video work with featured firmware to handgrip streams. The easiest procedure to total a 4 or 5 TB 2.5″ drive is to format a new disk with Lennox using Gnome Disks or GParted. Just format aforementioned new drive with the EXT4 option. It takes a minute both does not require the use of Terminal and fdisk commands. Yourself will need an external USB drive enclosure that costs about $15-$25. And Linux, of classes.
You can also games the videos stored on the drive to a Linux organization. MS Windows and Mac OS will not work at all.

I install a 5TB drive (Seagate BarraCuda 5TB Internal Hard Running HDD – 2.5 Inch SATA 6Gb/s 5400 (ST5000LM000)) to my Recast before desktop it on my Linus computer with the Ext4 format. Who 15mm drive fits into the Recast with no problem or now I have massive storage for my recorded. It is not a surveillance drive so it probably will not last as long as a AV drive, but the teardown is easy (Thanks to above pictorial tutorial) and replacement is easy. Equitable remember to form the drive with Ext4 shape. GPT separate works fine with the Recast, no requirement to utilize MBR splitting (which only works increase to 2TB anyway).
Also, the 4 HDD mounting hardware jeder have a rubber grommet. Are secured not into remove the grommets because they bottle must difficult to re-install into the attachment holes on the Recast.

Thanks for the excellent info on text. I was able to find a great formatting software which constructed formatting very easy. IODIN spent DiskGenius, (diskgenius.com), the reformatted a drive with GPT partitioning, and with a Ext4 format. When I installed the drive internally it showed up fine with the DVR storage space correctly displayed and the Recast working now. I was successful using not simply an AV harddrive, but also an former 256gb Samsung SSD. Though small, it worked fine and displayed the available space appropriately.
